If The Upcoming '24' Movie Doesn't Have Kiefer Sutherland Playing Jack Bauer Then Don't Even Bother

Growing up the TV show '24' was a staple in my house. Every Monday night at 9:00 it was time to lock in. Little 'Prison Break' before to get yourself warmed up, but once the clock came on the screen and started ticking it was go time. If you weren't in the house at 9 you weren't allowed back in until 10. It was that important. Maybe HBO or Showtime have shows now that can match that kind of intensity and drama, but when it comes to network shows there's nothing that holds a fucking candle to Jack Bauer racing against time to save the country. 10 years later it seems they're trying to run it back on the big screen.

Variety - A film adaptation of the popular television series “24” is in early development at 20th Century Studios, sources tell Variety. “Imagine has always played in that zone where there is that high probability chance that it will be successful in movie theaters. It’s great for us, because we’ve built, over 30 years, over 100 different products and brands, whether it’s ‘Backdraft,’ which I’m now going to do today with Glen Powell, or whether it’s ’24,’ a movie that we’re going to do in a very interesting way with Disney and Fox.”

My gut reaction to this was caution and concern. First of all, Kiefer Sutherland has to be involved heavily. They already tried to have a new lead in a continuation of the show with 24:Legacy and it never stood a chance. When it comes to asking if Kiefer would be up for the task again, I don't think you have to worry about that. This was from last year.

(EW) "Howard and I talk all the time and invariably it comes up," shares Sutherland, adding: "The idea of him being brought back — I'm just spitballing — I think that's an interesting idea. You introduce a new cast of people in their effort to get him out, and it lives on from that point. There's a lot of ways to go about it."

Since the end of 24, Kiefer has continued to stay in the game with 'Designated Survivor' and 'Rabbit Hole' but neither scratch the same itch that Jack Bauer provided. Jack threatening Saunders is a clip that will forever live with me. "When your daughter is infected, I'm gonna make you watch her die" is all-time. What a fucking show.

Nothing like it. I have no clue how you recreate this show with a movie, but if Jack Bauer is back in action then I'm there without a second of hesitation. Don't even show me the trailer, I'm in.

Something interesting from the original article here was Imagine Entertainment co-founder Brian Grazer talking about the state of shows and movies. He mentions how everyone is terrified of making something original because they've found the risk in that just isn't worth it.

Grazer also spoke to the Hollywood’s current outlook on selecting “already established” IP with “a high level of awareness,” adding, “These formats of the late 90s and the 2000s have become very important, because the streamers…or studios are very, right now, even more of risk averse.”

They know people love something like '24' so they're more inclined to run that back than try something new. It's sad, but I also get it.

P.S. Kiefer had another idea for the 24 concept where it would follow like a firefighter who is desperate and has to handle all sorts of crisis throughout the course of the day. I don't hate that.

P.P.S. Two clips that I feel obligated to throw in here….Ryan Chappelle's death. Some of the best TV there is

and Jack finally killing Cheng and his men on his rampage of revenge
