Last Night The Red Sox Deleted A Tweet Because "BDSM" Apparently Has Another Meaning Than "Big Dom Smith Moments"
So in a tight game with the Royals last night, Dom Smith tried to score from 3rd on a passed ball. The umpire originally called him Out, but after a Boston challenge, the play was overturned and the run counted. The Red Sox took a 4-3 lead. It was a big moment in the game, so the social media staffer that runs the Red Sox Twitter account finally got to reach deep into his bag and pull out what he's been workshopping for many weeks: BDSM (Big Dom Smith Moments).
AND THEN DELETED IT?!?
Listen, if you know one thing about me, it's that I hate anyone that deletes tweets. Cowardly move! Stand by what you believe in. Be who you say you are! Especially when you've got a banger like BDSM. But that leads me to my next question: what did the Red Sox social media team think was going to happen? Obviously this was not a coincidence and obviously they knew exactly what they were doing, so why the delete? I guess it's possible that a bunch of pornbots would latch onto the tweet and/or account and make following the Red Sox no longer family friendly, but also, that's the price you pay when tweeting about BSDM.
But either way, as someone with experience on the issue, nothing gets deleted from the internet even if you press delete. The Red Sox have TWO MILLION FOLLOWERS, so what does pressing delete even do? You know that shit was screenshot within .001 seconds of posting time. So now the question must be asked: does anything come from this? I'd like to know the fallout from the tweet, if there is any. Did an intern get fired? Did an employee get suspended for doing this on their own? Or perhaps, did the entire social media team think this was the right move and then had to huddle together and take a Survivor style vote to see if it should stay up or not once it started spiraling?
