Connor Stalions Has Landed The Defensive Coordinator Job At Mumford High School In Detroit
What a hire by Mumford High School in Detroit, Michigan. The Mustangs will no doubt be the most prepared team in the Detroit Public League. Because look, if I've said it once I've said it a million times: I have ZERO problem with what Connor Stalions did. He was great at his job and he did what he had to do. If I was a low-level staffer making $50,000 a year and I had the ability to not only impress the Head Coach but turn around the entire program, I'd do literally anything it takes. People get me all wrong that I blame Stalions...I don't. I blame Michigan for:
A) Getting caught. I do subscribe to the belief in competition that if you ain't cheating, you ain't trying. But part of cheating is covering all your bases and making sure that no one knows. If Michigan was down so bad that they literally had to cancel games and blame covid to avoid playing Ohio State, and Connor Stalions built a fake vacuum business and bought tickets at all the Big 10 games and hired people to hold phones pointed at the sidelines, fine. Kudos to him for coming up with a plan to resurrect the program. But you can't leave Venmo receipts and get caught wearing a Central Michigan polo on national television....
B) Acting like they didn't do anything wrong. Let me teach you all a saying: don't do the crime if you can't do the time. Again, cheat if you need to cheat to win. Would you rather be a doormat to your rival or bend the rules and beat them? The answer is easy. But part of cheating is not getting caught. So when you get caught, raise your hand like a man and say that ones on me. That's what drives me nuts about the entire Michigan scandal. They know they cheated, it worked, they got caught, and now they're crying unfair and that the world is out to get them. They're the first people to point the fingers when other teams get free tattoos but when the shoe is on the other foot, they go palms up and act like they did nothing wrong.
Either way, that's not the point of this blog. Congrats to the MVP of Michigan's championship* run, Connor Stalions, on the new job. Kinda crazy that Harbaugh gets to head off to the NFL while the real hero, Stalions, gets demoted to high school. But still, going from unemployed to back on the saddle must be a good feeling. A little late in the game to be hiring a D Coordinator though, no? But upon further research, Mumford High School finished 1-8 last season. Then again, teams have been known to completely flip the script once Stalions gets on staff.
Are we sure calling the Defense is the right move for Stalions though? A better fit seems to be wearing the other student section gear and filming the upcoming opponents sideline, then breaking down the signals all week so they have the plays before they even get called.
