Nikola Jokic Reportedly Spent Nearly $400,000 On Rolex Watches As A Gift For The Entire Serbian National Team

We're at the point where Nikola Jokic is probably one of the few athletes with a nearly 100% approval rating right? Outside of Joel Embiid stans and Sixers fans, is there anyone out there that dislikes Jokic? He doesn't really say shit to the media so he's not causing drama, his game is absolutely beautiful to watch

he's won at the highest level and overall seems like an incredible teammate. So to learn that he dropped a cool $400K on Rolex watches for his teammates on the Serbia National Team isn't all that surprising for a guy who looked to be having the time of his life playing with his countrymen

Imagine what it's like to be Jokic's teammate in this situation? Not only do you get to play with the best player on the planet who essentially put Serbia on his back on the way to their Bronze Medal, but you're also gifted a $32K watch for your troubles. What a guy. And while $400K might seem like a hefty amount, I'll remind you that Jokic made $47M in basketball money alone last year and is slated to make $51M this year. Something tells me he can afford it.

Of course, most will say it's not about the money and it's actually about the gesture, and in some ways I agree. This is no different from when we hear about the Super Bowl winning QB buying his offensive line something expensive, but there's a reason we're hearing about this and the money total. Hearing the figures makes the gesture seem even bigger, and honestly, in some ways it reminds me of one of my favorite Curb Your Enthusiasm episodes "Anonymous Donor"

I'm sure this all could have happened away from the press and all that, but what's the point in dropping $400K on watches if you can't tell anyone about it? You may as well load up on the good praise that the entire basketball world and internet will give you for something like this, myself included.

The difference of course is that given what we know about Jokic, I'd say there's a 0.0% chance he cares about this getting out and how good it makes him look. In fact, I'd bet he preferred it to never get out in the first place. A guy who doesn't really want any attention on himself doesn't feel like the type of person who would do something like this just for the credit. In a weird way, that almost makes me like it more? It feels more genuine in my opinion. As you can see in the tweet it suggests he bought 11 watches, which means he didn't even buy himself one.

I guess it really is true that playing next to Jokic can truly change your life. From a basketball standpoint he'll win you an Olympic medal or in the NBA, he'll get you paid as the Jokic bump is very real (see: Bruce Brown, KCP, MPJ and Jamal Murray). Then on top of all that, he'll give you a watch worth tens of thousands of dollars just because he feels like it. Not a bad guy to have on your team if you ask me.
