Stubborn Asshole Brian Cashman Continues His Delusion And Says Alex Verdugo Gives The Yankees a Better Chance To Win Over Jasson Dominguez

The Yankees stumble into their weekend set with the Cubs having lost three straight series to the Nationals, Cardinals, and Rangers. Despite the Orioles not lighting the world on fire themselves, they've hopped New York in the standings as the regular season nears an end. Not great!

The stalling of their momentum has made many wonder if it's time to call up top prospect Jasson Dominguez to replace ground ball merchant Alex Verdugo. Brian Cashman joined the team in Chicago to tell the media that he believes Verdugo gives them the best chance to win.

It's yet another example of the Yankees being too stubborn with veterans to make a change that many would view as common sense. They rarely believe an injection of youth can improve you. Instead they ride the pedigree and track record of a player and hope they turn around their results. See Aaron Hicks, Joey Gallo, and Josh Donaldson as recent examples. Any poor performance is chalked up to bad luck and nothing else.

That's why you won't see Jasson Dominguez this year. Never mind his one day call up for the Williamsport game to face AL Cy Young shoe-in Tarik Skubal. He was good enough that day to bat fifth against a top of the line pitcher, but now he can't play over a guy whose best ability is to move a runner over from 2nd to 3rd with a rollover grounder to second. Alex Verdugo doesn't hit for power, he doesn't hit for average, and he doesn't get on base. He hasn't even resembled his lockdown defensive self in left field this year. Dominguez could up and struggle and he'd provide better results than Verdugo right now. Nope, instead there's no lane. How could you possibly play this guy everyday?

If Alex Verdugo was a free agent right now he would not be picked up by a contender to start for them. If any other competent GM oversaw this situation, Dominguez would be up here and playing every day. It's a complete no brainer, yet the Yankees see it differently. They can't possibly be wrong about this, right? They've been so successful in the last 15 years that they have every right to be arrogant about their ways. All their World Series appearances speak for themselves. Kiss their rings. They're the Yankees!

What's even sadder is that Aaron Boone's "everything is fine" mentality has infected the players. Keep in mind they're 31-39 in their last 70 games. To not see why fans would be upset and worried right now is straight up ignoring the problems at hand.

Could you imagine a player from the 90s teams saying this stuff? Jeter would have called a players only meeting to find out who was the culprit and set them straight. As much as I love Aaron Judge, he's not Jeter, and this team needs a Jeter so fucking badly. You want to be an asshole and talk about his stats and how you believe he was overrated, go nuts, but you can't put a value on how on how fucking good he was at leading those teams and making sure everyone had urgency and a championship mentality. Jeter would never leave the analyst boost to stoop down to manager, but maybe Posada would. They always say a catcher makes for a great manager. Hearing him talk like this on Old Timer's Day made me want him as the next skipper.

Unfortunately at the end of the year Boone will receive and extension and Cashman will get a statue, while I tie a cinderblock to my ankle and drop off the George Washington.
