Urban Meyer Says He Will NOT Be Returning To Florida To Coach The Gators

So Pete Thamel reported yesterday that there isn't the same amount of urgency within the decision makers at Florida as there may be amongst fans to fire Billy Napier RIGHT NOW. People were thinking he'd be gone by Sunday morning of last week, but it seems like he will at least make it through another game day. They've got Mississippi State in Starkville this weekend, so a loss there would certainly be the straw that breaks the camel's back, no? Either way, whether it's now, next week, after UCF, or at the end of the season, I think it's a foregone conclusion that Billy Napier will not be the Head Coach of the Florida Gators next year.

...so who will be? Well, as as this afternoon, I can tell you who it will not be. And that's Urban Meyer.

People will likely point out that Urban is not the most honest man in the business, but I believe him here. I don't think Urban will ever coach again. He's a power first, listen to me, my way or the highway type guy. And the way that the NIL world and the transfer portal are taking us, I don't think he can handle it. Plus, remember he has health issues!

Now I will say this: if Ryan Day doesn't beat Michigan this year, I want Urban hired by dinner that evening. Coach us in the playoff and start his reunion with another National Championship. But that's not the point of this blog. The point of this blog is Florida is going to need a coach, and according to Urban, he won't be the guy…..despite him having gone 65-15 and 2 Nattys in his first tenure there.

So who will it be? I have a source that says Lane Kiffin really wants the job. But when I said that in the Gambling Cave on Sunday to the person sitting directly next to me, Mintzy damn near jumped down my throat and personally guaranteed that Lane is not interested and he knows that for a FACT. So I kinda hope he takes the job just so I can be like, hey Mintzy, you're not that smart! But other than that….Marcus Freeman without the Notre Dame admissions requirements? I saw James Franklin get floated out there, lol. Or how about the best coach in Florida already, Alex Golesh from USF? Should be interesting, and will likely start a domino effect when this move finally does happen. Could be a firing as early as Sunday morning if things don't go well this Saturday…
