The Mets Playing Howie Rose's Call Of Pete Alonso's Home Run On The Plane Ride From Milwaukee As The Team Gave Him A Standing Ovation Is Goosebumps City
How can you not be romantic about baseball?!? What a video, what a call, what a goddamn legend. There is nobody in the universe that deserved that moment more than Howie Rose.
I know there are plenty of baseball lifers that grind away playing the game, scouting the game, or any of the other jobs that result in moments like last night. But the announcers that have to follow a team across the country a bazillion games a year and do their best to make a slow sport interesting through the cold early months of spring, through the dog days of summer, all the way to the fall are the real MVPs. Doubly so if they are doing it for a team that can twist up your soul then light it on fire like the New York Metropolitans Baseball Club.
Howie has been our guy crushing that role forever while also being a lifelong fan that has lived and died with everything this fucked up franchise has done to us over these years. So him getting an ovation for his incredible work by the guys he's spent his life calling is about as beautiful a moment as you will get 35,000 feet above the ground. I know he was probably mortified a camera caught all that. But those high fives and whatever sweet nothing he whispered to Pete must've made calling all those Mets losses during damp September nights at Shea at the end of another hopeless season worth it.

Hey, you guys want to watch a bunch of clips of Pete's home run along with the reactions of different broadcasts as well as fans that were watching the game live? Good, me too!
While I continue to try to believe that last night even happened, here are some stats that are so absurd I am convinced they are false, even if they are undeniably true.
Unfuckingreal. I gotta shout out Jose Quintana for putting up goose eggs for 6 innings in the biggest spot of the year that would've been forgotten about if the Mets didn't come back. True big boy stuff.
We recorded an emergency We Gotta Believe last night after the game was over that I hopped on in my cab ride from HQ to Grand Central. So check it out if you wanna keep the vibes flowing and gear up for what could be a deep October run. Gotta believe!!!
