It's Official: The Bruins Have Fired Jim Montgomery And Replaced Him With Assistant Coach Joe Sacco
Well we asked for it, knew it was coming, and it finally happened- Jim Montgomery has officially been fired as Head Coach of the Boston Bruins after 2.5 (not even) seasons in Boston. The Bruins disastrous start of the year gave ownership/management no other choice. The failings don't necessary fall completely under Montgomery but he unfortunately has to be the scapegoat here. Just like Bruce Cassidy who found success elsewhere, I imagine it'll be the same for Monty. Great coach but just felt like he ultimately lost the room.
Joe Sacco, who runs their PK (25th in the league at 75.6% by the way), takes over. If Neely and Sweeney aren't the next to be fired, I hate this move. I actually believe Sweeney's contract (like Montgomery's prior to being canner) expires at the end of this year. Anyways, an in-season coaching change is never great, but the Bruins needed something, anything to get them going and out of this horrible start to the season. I think they're better suited to bring someone in that's not currently a part of the organization. Fresh eyes. Let's see where they go from here.
