Quinn Ewers Underwent An MRI This Weekend And Florida State Fans Couldn't Help But Use the Situation To Make Themselves Look As Dumb As Humanly Possible
Last year, when I had no dog in the fight, I desperately wanted undefeated Florida State left out of the 4-team CFB playoff. I didn't think they would be competitive. I didn't want to watch a blowout. When Jordan Travis went out for the season, and we saw how Florida State looked in the ACC Championship game with Brock Glenn at the helm (8/21, 55 YDS, 0 TD's). Despite Florida State winning that game 16-6, I wanted to see a competitive showdown between Michigan & Alabama more than I wanted to watch Michigan boringly cruise past Florida State 24-0 in a game that featured 10 total pass attempts.
However... now that there is a team I cheer for (Indiana) who is in a position where record-wise they deserve to be in the playoff, but based on the eye-test probably don't... I am now disgusted to my very core about the injustice that happened to Florida State last season. Absolutely fucking disgusting. Is this what college football has come to? The results of the game don't matter anymore? We're just going to go off who Vegas thinks would win on a neutral field? If that's what we're going to do, then we might as well not even play the games. Just let whichever SEC teams who have the best recruits as determined by Rivals.com compete for a championship. It's not like they had all fucking season to play each other and determine which 4 teams best represent their conference.
But even though I have now seen the light because of circumstances that directly affect a team I care about, I must say that Florida State supporter could not have possibly made themselves look more foolish here. For so many reasons. For starters, Quinn Ewers is not missing any games. He slightly tweaked his ankle during the Kentucky game last weekend. It was reported yesterday that he would undergo an MRI. But as it turns out, Ewers has nothing more than a mild ankle sprain and will be perfectly fine to play on Saturday vs Texas A&M.
But a sizable group of "Florida State was robbed" backers made sure to capitalize on that very very VERY brief moment in time after it was announced that Ewers was getting an MRI, and it looked like there was maybe the slightest chance he could have a legitimate injury, to make themselves look as stupid as humanly possible...
I shouldn't have to explain how unbelievably false of an equivalency that is. Brock Glenn is not Archie Manning. We've seen Texas with Archie Manning and they look like the same team. Some might argue they're even better. Florida State with Brock Glenn could barely get a first down. Archie Manning is probably a top 10 QB in college football right now. Brock Glenn was the equivalent of putting a dead seal in at quarterback. etc. etc. You get the picture.
I don't even think Florida State fans truly believe that. But even making a tongue & cheek joke about it like, "Huh guys? Kinda the same thing isn't it? They did set this precedent after all, didn't they? Makes you think a bit…"
No. It does not make you think a bit. The precedent they set was. "if a team looks like they can't compete as currently constructed going into the playoffs then we reserve the right to leave them out regardless of their body of work".

That was the case with Florida State. That would not have been the case with Texas. If they want to point at anyone they should point at Indiana. Indiana this year is far more similar to last year's Florida State situation than Texas would have been if Quinn Ewers were truly injured. It's not a backup quarterback thing. It's a "can this team compete" thing. If Ohio State's entire defense gets caught up in a massive insider trading scandal and they're forced to play out the rest of the season with 11 walk-ons, then they're probably getting left out too. If you want to argue that's stupid, then that's obviously fair. But you're dumb joke about Quinn Ewers & Texas like you're making any semblance of a decent point is so fucking stupid. That's what I'm annoyed about if anything. Not that people actually think Texas should be left out. But your joke is bad. It doesn't make sense. It is not clever and it certainly does not make consider how Florida State was treated last year. They just couldn't help themselves. They've been waiting all year for a starting QB to go down so they can use it to remind everyone of how they were screwed. But they used the wrong opportunity and now they look dumb. And now they're making me look even dumber for taking the bait and writing about it. Those who read this blog are now dumber as well. We're all dumber because of you Florida State. I hope you're happy.
