Jayson Tatum Absolutely Fried Brandon Jennings In His Response To Being Called "The Softest Superstar In Celtics History"
For his entire career, I can't ever remember a time where Jayson Tatum acknowledged the trolls. Since Day 1 of his Celtics career, he never gives a quote, never causes drama, and doesn't participate in the bullshit. He works on his game and hangs out with his kid. That's it. Even though everyone from social media to legitimate media companies thrive off playing around with his name, he always remains mostly silent. It's one of the more respectable things about him, even though there are some that wish he wasn't like that. That he would partake in the drama and go back and forth, but for his entire career that's never really been him
But you know what? Sometimes a guy has to take a stand. If some weirdo is going to go on a podcast and play around with your name and take shots at you for no reason, it's OK to finally take a stance and punch back. Now that he's a champion, we've been seeing a whole new version of Tatum on the basketball court. Easily having the best season of his already impressive career, winning that title unlocked something with his game. It also has clearly unlocked something in his not giving a shit meter and his willingness to dunk on a hater for being a weirdo
If you're confused, allow me to bring you up to speed.
Brandon Jennings decided to say some pretty insane shit on Gilbert Arena's podcast a few days ago, not too different from what any of the haters and losers of which there are still many tend to say when it comes to Jayson Tatum. They can't help it. Their hurt is too deep and he has done irrevocable damage to their brains.
Despite it being cringy as fuck to be doing this type of thing in 2024/2025, everyone knows how this game goes.
Just some of the most pathetic stuff you're ever going to hear. You don't even need to waste the 8 minutes, because Jennings does what every single person does who says this same bullshit. They talk out of their ass, ignore reality, and make a complete fool out of themselves. As you can imagine, Jennings said nothing to support his claim other than shit like "Well Jaylen Brown won FMVP" as if that fucking matters in relation to anything.
Again, to be doing this in 2025 when Jayson Tatum just led the Celtics in every category on the way to a title is so bizarre that you almost can't believe there are people out there who still do this sort of thing. It couldn't be more embarrassing. Calling a player who never misses time, who dunked on LeBron as an 18 year old, and who has more basketball scars and success than 90% of players in the league "soft" is borderline criminal. To then suggest he's the softest Celtic of all time is even more embarrassing. I watched Kyrie Irving. Jayson Tatum doesn't play soft, his mentality isn't soft, and his durability isn't soft. There isn't a soft part about his game or his mentality.
Usually when this happens, Tatum stays silent and we have his trainer Drew Hanlen do the talking for him instead. For a while, that's what we got
so to see Tatum finally take it upon himself to finally respond and essentially shove Brandon Jennings in a locker was fantastic to see. It's something I didn't know he had in him. Part of me wishes he didn't take the bait, but now that he's become a champion and is entering his NBA prime, fuck it. Talk your shit. If there's ever a time to talk your shit, it's while you are a champion.
I will say, given how Tatum has played this year and how good he's been, there has been a public shift in his overall discourse. More and more people are now realizing how corny and forced the Tatum hate is. He's not only the least problematic NBA superstar outside of Nikola Jokic, he also wins. In reality here on planet Earth, he's well on his way to becoming a generational Celtic, so to hear Brandon Jennings try and troll or hate for no reason is just lame. It doesn't make you cool or funny, it makes you weird.
If this is the "new media" that Draymond Green talked about, it's pretty shitty.
