We've Got a Trailer For The Upcoming 'Jurassic World: Rebirth' Summer Blockbuster - The Director Promises Fear And a Mutant T-Rex That's Partially Inspired By The 'Alien' Franchise's Xenomorph
I write this blog under extreme caution. Terrified, caution. The fact that we seemingly closed the book on the Jurassic World movies with the atrocity that was Dominion only to restart the engine again in just three years feels rushed and unnecessary.
Being a dinosaur nut job (I used to go on digs as a kid) and maybe the biggest fan of the OG trilogy that there is (I still don't think JP3 was all that bad) here I am giving it a fair shot because I can't stop myself! It helps to start that Gareth Edwards is the director. He was in charge of 2014's Godzilla, The Creator, and Rogue One. I'm a big fan of those, so maybe we're onto something? We also have the same writer from the first two JPs. Then you get the lovely Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali on board as stars. Another good step.
So what's the plot? Where are we going with this? There have been a lot of rumors regarding that, but what better way to confirm all of that than a trailer? Enjoy…
Okay, I actually was kinda into that? Sure we're diving more into the hybrid dinosaur theme AGAIN and a new island, but the reasoning here is sorta legitimate. These are the dinosaurs who failed to mutate properly and were cast away because they were too frightening and fucked up for the original theme park.
Admittedly when I saw this blurb before the trailer I got nervous. What the fuck are we doing? Xenomorphs??? How is that a real plot point?
But now knowing the plot of the movie has to do with these mutant fuck ups, I kinda see how this is gonna be scary. It's just not exactly a dinosaur movie and more a monster film. Whatever dude, just fucking scare me is all I ask.

And yes there's still plenty to do with the normal dinosaurs we've grown to know and love. The Rex looks awesome. Tiger Rex!
And we've got Raptors.

As well as a pack of Spinosaurus which we haven't seen at all since JP3. Big fan of whatever this scene is going to give us, featuring a Mosasaurus at the bottom as well.
Something a Jurassic Park/World movie needs to be successful is fear. The OG used it as a tool so well. That kitchen scene with the raptors, the T-Rex escape in the rain, and of course "Clever Girl" in the jungle. The last two JWs strayed so far from fear that they didn't even kill off a main character in the final movie! I need so much death in this shit.
A big problem with death, however, is children. Dr. Grant was right with his distaste for them in the first film. Every time they pop up I groan. Why? Because you know they can't die in the movie. They're just a waste of space.

Gareth Edwards did an interview with Vanity Fair leading up to this trailer release and pretty much admitted he knew the job at hand was to scare people. I don't think we'll get a Rated R Jurassic movie here, but at least there are intentions of scaring us lined throughout all the plot and discourse. In that article he promises the movie has plenty of terror and includes an ingredient of "the enduring instinctual fear of being chased and devoured." That gives me hope.
Also something exciting? We're actually getting the lagoon raft scene that's been long desired for from the book.
All of the right things are being said here, but we gotta execute. I want to believe this can be good, but I've been hurt way too much recently with whatever the fuck Fallen Kingdom and Dominion tried to be. Just go back to the basics (I understand the hybrid T-Rex/Xenomorph monster is the opposite of the basics). I can see a lot of people reading the plot and watching that trailer being furious. I'm a simple guy. You give me dinosaurs trying to kill people and I'm pretty much in. Take my money. I'm the sucker that helps these blockbusters all make a billion dollars. Maybe they're due to get it right?
P.S. Seems like Mahershala Ali's character is the cocky one of the group. If he doesn't have a gruesome death then I know nothing about these movies.
