The Mavs Tried To Slander Luka Doncic For Reportedly Being 270 Pounds Only For Him To Immediately Look Skinny As Hell As A Laker

One of the things you couldn't stop hearing about when it came to the Luka Doncic trade was his weight and his conditioning issues. The second Luka was no longer a Mav, every single report you heard from the team side was a desperate attempt to spinzone what is largely considered one of the worst trades in NBA history. Now there was some aspects that make sense on paper, the defensive upgrade for example isn't a lie, and as we saw in the Finals Luka's defense was certainly an issue. But that alone is not enough to give up on a 25 year old MVP candidate. So what else had to come with it? The leaks about his weight. I'm not talking about NBA Twitter clowning on Luka or anything like that, but actual reporters putting out that narrative which very clearly came from the team side
Fast forward just 5 days later, and I dunno, does this look like a guy that is pushing 270 pounds???
I get it, his defense is mostly dogshit, and his "conditioning" might not be the best despite the fact that ya know, he seems to be able to play a lot when he's healthy and on the floor all while putting up God-like production.
But you cannot tell me that dude is pushing 270 pounds. Is it maybe just the Laker jersey/colors that make a difference? Maybe the camera angle? Because I have to be honest, Luka looks fairly in shape here and he certainly does not look like his weight is nearing 270 and is so out of control that the Mavs had no choice but to bail on their franchise player.
In some ways, this is just the latest example of how insane this trade really was. The Mavs as an organization did everything they could to slander Luka and create this perception that he was ballooning into a fat piece of shit, even though we all have eyes. That's another layer to this whole thing that makes it so confusing. From the video to the pictures that we see of Luka, how on earth could anyone suggest that he was 270 pounds? It's clearly all bullshit.
Which is why you can understand why Luka dodged the question about this during his introductory presser
Sure there's something to be said about being the bigger person and not stooping to their level, but I also think it's because Luka knew that everyone could tell it was all bullshit, and as a result it makes the Mavs look even worse. He didn't need to say a thing. Again, his weight was reported as a major concern as to why this trade had to happen, and it took 5 days for that to age like milk sitting in the Dallas sun.
YIKES.
It's pretty clear what's now about to happen right? This is your classic break-up scenario. Luka was in a marriage that he was happy in and thought he'd be a part of forever. After a shocking breakup, what comes next is what you see all the time in real life. The Glow Up. Not only am I sure the Mavs just created an even bigger basketball monster, but this all probably ends with Luka getting into the best shape of his life. I mean look at him in that video! It's been 5 days!
At the end of the day, my heart once again goes out to Mavs fans. Every day it seems things get worse and worse, and now that Luka is motivated and already looking as slim as he did as a rookie all while the organization tried to tell that fanbase they had to trade him because he was fat, I mean damn. That would send me over the edge if we're being honest. Deep down we all knew it was bullshit when that report first came out, but there's something about seeing the pictures and video of Luka looking skinny that makes it so much worse.
