Chipper Jones Says Randy Johnson Tipped His Pitches, Which Means He Must Be the Greatest Pitcher of All-Time
Chipper Jones finished his career with six home runs off Randy Johnson, more than any other player was able to manage against The Big Unit. Jones also hit .361 with a 1.299 OPS against Johnson, both of which are also better than just about everyone who ever stepped in the box against him. And in light of recent information shared by Chipper — and Eduardo Perez — it seems like Johnson holding a fellow first ballot Hall of Famer to those numbers may have actually been the more impressive feat between the two of them.
Johnson finished his career with a 3.29 ERA, more than 4,800 strikeouts, five Cy Young Awards, 10 All-Star appearances and a pitching triple crown and he did all of that while apparently half of Major League Baseball knew what pitch he was throwing every time. Hell, we know at least the Braves were aware of what was coming and he pitched a perfect game against Atlanta.
Imagine what this hoss would have done if he just wasn't tipping pitches. He'd have flown by Nolan Ryan's strikeout record and have probably two or three more Cy Youngs.
Johnson was so nasty he ended up in the Hall of Fame even after trying to help out every hitter he faced. Legend.
