Mike Piazza and Carlos Beltran may want a word with Chris over that “Best Met in 20 years comment,” but other wise he’s 100% spot on. Darryl Strawberry without the crack. Luckily Yo is just addicted to cigarettes, home runs, and hosing down people foolish enough to run on him.

The statistics continue to baffle:

14 home runs in 36 games. 1.032 OPS. WAR of 2.6 before heading into last night’s game. Bashed a game winning home run and the best part of all? He does it with enough swagger to make a fucking rock star jealous.

I wrote yesterday about the Cespedes for MVP talks. Its never gonna happen. No mid season acquisition has ever done it. And the truth of the matter is as spectacular as Yo’s NL numbers are, Bryce Harpers are better and he’s been doing it over a longer period of time. But honestly, who gives a fuck? When Harper lifts that MVP trophy thats a nice notch in his belt, for sure. Enormous accomplishment. But what Yoenis is doing right now, in this moment, and in the second half of this season is more important. Thats why I used the world impact over value yesterday. He’s an atomic bomb of baseball talent and flair that has just been dropped right on top of the National League during crunch time. He’s playing the best baseball out of anyone in the league when it matters the most. Completely changes the dynamic of this team. Completely changes the line up. Gives the Mets a hitter that pitchers are petrified of. And he’s carrying them to a National League pennant.

So when its all said and done what will people remember more? Bryce Harper’s MVP year in a season where his team grossly underachieved and failed to make the postseason despite playing in the NL East? Or the 50-60 games in which Yoenis Cespedes rolled through New York city and dominated this town and this league like Darryl did in the 80s and Piazza did in 2000? I know which one I’m gonna remember. And judging by the way baseball fans around the league are acting, I think they’ll remember Cespedes too.
