Niagara Falls' New Recycling Mascot "Totes McGoats" Is Here To Haunt Your Dreams
TIME- Captain Planet may be our hero, but Totes McGoats is giving him some competition. The Niagara Falls Solid Waste Education and Enforcement Team in Buffalo, N.Y., has introduced a new mascot to encourage kids to recycle. The goat-human hybrid—Totes McGoats—posed for several photos with local television station TWC News Buffalo. McGoats was introduced last year as a mascot of Niagra Falls’ recycling initiative, designed to get kids and parents to recycle “for generations to come,” Brooke D’Angelo told TWC News Buffalo. “I guess you would say Totes is a cute animal mascot, kind of scary actually,” Niagara Falls Mayor Paul Dyster said. “But having an animal mascot we think is one of the ways that you can reach out to kids and get their attention.” The goat-man seems to be working: before he was around, recycling rates were at a paltry 4%. One year later, the program boasts a 23% participation rate. McGoats even has his own Twitter account, with sage recycling advice that kids these days can understand—written in emojis, of course.

So many questions and not near enough answers. I mostly just need to know how many focus groups got together before they ultimately decided on Goatface Killah. If the end goal was to terrify people into recycling or he’ll eat their souls then I’d say they nailed it. Nothing makes me want to conserve the Earth more than a man wearing a goat’s mask who is also wearing gardening gloves so the cops won’t be able to trace his finger prints after he murders you in cold blood. The funny part is they probably thought the name “Totes McGoats” was gonna be a real hit with the millennials. “Oh I’ve heard them say it on numerous occasions. It’s even listed in their urban dictionary.” To top it off the turquoise shirt really makes the whole outfit pop. 10/10 will be seeing that mascot when I close my eyes later tonight.
