Remember That Time Ron Jaworski Said Colin Kaepernick Could Be One Of The Greatest QB's Of All Time And Then He Was Benched For Blaine Gabbert?

Ahhhh good times. From one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time to benched for Blaine Gabbert, owner of a 66.8 career QB rating. And listen, I know everyone has piled on Kap recently. He’s an easy target with the beats and the kissing bicep celebration and all the noise, and he has been ATROCIOUS this year. But the big picture takeaway here is that there has never been a worse decision by a franchise than letting Jim Harbaugh walk out the front door. Maybe the relationship was broken beyond repair and he had to go, but from the outside looking in, siding with the GM over the Coach in this situation set the franchise back 5+ years. NFL Head coaching is an impossible job and the good ones are few and far between. To let a guy who took you to 3 straight NFC Championships leave the building makes no sense when you look at the landscape of the league. Head Coach and Quarterback, there are probably 30 people in this world that can do one of those two jobs at a high level. It is the rarest of rare, and now the Niners have neither.

Quickly back to Kaepernick, I would absolutely take a low risk shot at him. You just can’t tell me a guy who makes a play like this doesn’t still have worth. Do people remember this one? Kap stepping up in the pocket, feeling the rush, eyes downfield, bullet to a spot only his guy can catch it. All in one of the biggest games of his life.

He’s a headcase and a mess but a guy who can make that play, or go on the road and win a playoff game at Lambeau field, or come within a play of winning a Super Bowl is a guy who still has value. It won’t be easy but I’d still rather have him than a bunch of guys in the league.

As for Blaine Gabbert, well here you go Niner fans, get excited!
