The Picture Of The Royals Celebrating Winning The World Series On The Mound At Citi Field Literally Makes Me Sick

I don’t know what this says about me as a grown man, but the first time I saw this picture, I wanted to throw up. Not figuratively or “literally” in the sense of some teenage girl. Like I truly felt nauseous in my stomach for about 15 minutes. And it was all I thought about for at least an hour straight. It’s actually the same feeling I had when watching the Red Wedding on Game of Thrones (Season 3 SPOILERS COMING).

The World Series was basically the Red Wedding. Just a quick, painful slaughter in the most inhumane way possible. Just all the weaknesses we knew about exposed, as the Mets‘ proverbial throats were slit.  But it all happened so “quickly”, it didn’t really set in until after it was over.  However, if you remember the next episode begins with Robb Stark’s direwolf attached to Robb’s headless body and paraded around. The awful feeling I get in my stomach during that scene is the EXACT feeling I get when looking at this picture.  Just nauseous, angry, bewildered sadness.  Syndergaard said if the Royals had a problem, he was 60 feet, 6 inches away. And credit to the Royals, they got their revenge in the most brutal way possible. There are 8 million places at Citi Field to take that picture. But they took it right on the mound. With the Mets logo showing. Basically all of our worst nightmares brought to life.

Actually, scratch that. Because next season will be our worst nightmare. 20 years or so of Interleague play has gone on, yet since the leagues were an uneven number, we didn’t have an Interleague game on Opening Day. Well sure enough, once the Astros moved to the A.L., it ensured that there will always be one Interleague series going on. And one quick glance at the Mets schedule tells you that the Mets somehow, some way open next season in Kansas City. For the banner raising ceremony. 99.9999% chance on Sunday Night Baseball.  Mets fans will hear about this “fun fact” approximately 25 billion times before next season starts, kind of like how Cubs fans had to hear about the infamous goat’s name being Murphy during the NLCS.

The Baseball Gods are as cruel to the Mets as the Westerosi Gods are to the Starks. Rooting for the Mets is like rooting for the Starks. You want to believe that a happy ending is coming, but you are also not surprised when everyone you love gets their heads chopped off just because life is cruel.

This all makes perfect sense, I promise you.

PS: People may ask why I blogged about this picture if it truly makes me sick. To be honest, I thought it may help. Nope, I actually feel worse now than I did before the blog. I need Godzingis to dunk on another All-Star ASAP in order to feel better.
