The Pirates Are Wearing Their 1979 Throwback Jerseys This Year

The 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates finished first place in the National League East, swept the Cincinnati Reds in the National League Championship Series, and defeated the Baltimore Orioles in seven games to win their fifth World Series title.

It was also their most recent World Series title, which is probably why the Pirates are digging these jerseys out of the closet to wear in 2016. The Pirates announced on Thursday that these will be the jerseys that they’ll wear for every Sunday home game this year. In addition to the throwback pullover jerseys, the Pirates are bringing back the black pants and pillbox caps. What a time to be alive.
