The Hockey Round Up: Amateur Edition

After a little bit of a hiatus, the Hockey Round Up is back.

Vancouver Canucks Fans

This week is what I envisioned when I started doing these round ups earlier this season. That I would get reader submissions of GIFs, highlights, and topics from all levels of hockey. You guys do all the work, and I get all the credit. It’s called a symbiotic relationship. Watch a nature show. I especially wanted highlights or funny videos from lower levels of hockey. HS, prep, junior, college, even D1 club hockey. You guys send your own teams in, I give you a little shine on the website that invented the internet, you follow me on twitter, and then I grow my following to like 50k. Old hockey/big tobacco trick. Get em hooked while their young. But none of that really happened.

Willie Desjardins

Not until today that is. Big thanks to all the people who sent in highlights from the Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament, NCAA hockey, and a few Major Junior highlights as well.

Winnipeg Jets Fan

Before we get into the meat of the blog, we’re going to do a little self-promotion. Chip & Chase Hockey Podcast recorded our 17th episode last night. The reason I started a hockey podcast was because I thought there weren’t many hockey podcasts out there and the ones that are out there are run by hockey twitter eggs. Click play, subscribe, rate, and comments on itunes by clicking here.

This week is with Nate, Barstool’s little ball of hate.

We talked NHL, Corsi/Fenwick stats being bullshit, hockey twitter hating Barstool, the World Cup, and if John Buccigross is getting annoying.

Alright, now to the Minnesota State Tournment

Great little spinning/no-look dish by Breck against Mankato-West.

Great finish going across the face of the goal here by Grand Rapids at the buzzer

Biggest takeaway from this video is all the orange in the crowd EXPLODING. The HS tournament is the biggest thing in Minnesota sports. Every game is televised and the biggest crowds ever at Excel Arena, where the Wild play, is for High School hockey. They set the record with an attendance of 22,244. Wild games are considered a “sell out” at 17,954. They’re breaking fire code for HS hockey.

Little short side chip shot here. Soccer people would call this cheeky

Busted Water bottle

water bottle spa

Hermantown put on the biggest show so far during the tournament.

hermantown sauce

hermantown assist

A little back story on Hermantown. They’ve made it to the Championship game the past 6 years(and now 7) and are 0-6. And…they’re also for some reason the villains of Minnesota hockey, which I love.

As you can see here by the fan giving a HS kid the double middle finger

Minnesota State Championship game is today. Send all highlights, gifs, fan shots whatever to barstoolchief@gmail.com. If kids from Michigan, Massachusetts, New England Prep, Illinois, etc have blogable material, send it in. You can also tweet to

College Hockey

This is basically just the North Dakota section of the blog

Canucks prospect Brock Boesser just dances around the goalie.

Not even the best toe-drag of the game. Nick Schmaltz won’t be out-done.

Oh boohoo, the Blackhawks traded another first round pick and Marko Dano, wah wah wah. Well you can afford to pay a steep price for rentals when all of your star players are locked up and you’ve got reinforcements like Schmaltz coming in 2017. Dynasty reign bitches.

Canadian Major Junior

Mitch Marner with a great little drop pass to Christian Dvorak

Marner belongs to Toronto and Dvorak belongs to Arizona. Both teams stink, both teams might be bad enough to win the Austen Matthews lottery. Both could be contenders by 2020.

Major hit in the WHL

NHL

Save of the night by Raanta

HUGE hit and a little dust up between the Devils and Stars

Subban with a rocket by Quick. How was this guy involved in trade rumors?

That’s it for this week. Huge thanks to everyone that sent in clips, especially @JimmyButts19 who put together the Minnesota hockey gifs. Can’t it enough, the blog works so much better when the hockey stoolies send stuff in. Otherwise hockey twitter people from the cauldron or SB Nation win. Send in tips to barstoolchief@gmail.com, tweet to @barstoolchief, and especially like subscribe, rate, and comment on the podcast iTunes page.
