Wake Up With Madison Bumgarner Ripping A Double In An American League Ballpark

San Francisco Giants v Oakland Athletics

Yesterday, I wrote about how Madison Bumgarner was about to become the first pitcher who was intentionally put in a lineup over a designated hitter since 1976, and then he roped a double in his first at-bat. Ball probably (definitely) should’ve been caught, but whatever. A double’s a double, and that was his second double of the year. Bumgarner only had two doubles in each of the last two seasons, so he’ll likely end up with his highest amount of doubles since 2011 when he had four. He actually got two at-bats that inning, because the Giants hung six runs on the A’s en route to their 12-6 victory, but the two-bagger was his only hit on the night.

As far as that whole pitching thing went — you know, the reason why he was in the game in the first place — that didn’t go all that great. Bumgarner went 6.1 innings, allowing four earned runs on 7 hits, two of which were home runs. The four earned run start for Bumgarner matches a season high for most earned runs allowed in a single start by the left-hander. Still got the win, though.
