Anderson Silva Is Now Fighting Daniel Cormier At UFC 200

With Jon Jones out of UFC 200 because he’s a big dumb idiot, Daniel Cormier needed an opponent. With only 2 days to find someone, the UFC announced late last night Anderson Silva is fighting DC in a 3 round, non-title fight tomorrow night.

Though he has seen better days in the octagon, Silva is a well known UFC star who is taking a fight on extremely, and we mean extremely, short notice. He hasn’t won a fight since 2012 and is only 2 months removed from gall bladder surgery, so wouldn’t that be something if the 41 year old with no fight prep could step in and pick up this win? Though it’s nowhere near the Jones vs Cormier rematch we should be seeing, there’s a certain level of intrigue to this fight. I mean Silva is a legend, fighting a champion on 3 days notice, at the biggest UFC PPV of all time. I don’t know if it’s because I’m a sucker for sappy sports stories, but Silva winning this fight would be nothing short of a remarkable story that I have to root for him.

The best thing about UFC is even though this isn’t the fight with all the buildup and story lines and history, it should still be exciting. UFC 200, even without Jones vs DC, is a must-buy. I’m pretty sure I can safely say I’ve never regretted watching a UFC PPV, and I don’t expect tomorrow night to be any different.

PS: Interesting that Tate-Nunes is now the main event. I don’t know how you follow Brock Lesnar, but hey, good for those ladies I guess, main eventing UFC 200. No small feat.
