A star of Ice Road Truckers has died along with another man in a plane crash in western Montana, US.

Darrell Ward, 52, was killed after the plane he was a passenger in came down on the hard shoulder of Interstate 90, south-east of Missoula on Sunday.

A statement on Ward’s Facebook page said he was travelling to Montana to begin filming a pilot episode of a show about the recovery of plane crashes.

The pilot, 56-year-old Mark Melotz, appeared to be attempting to land at a nearby airstrip when something went drastically wrong, according to Missoula County sheriff’s captain Bill Burt.

Witnesses described seeing the aircraft hit several trees before crashing into a fireball.

Everybody has gotta die, but I sure hope that my death isn’t as ironic as dying in a plane crash on my way to film a show about plane crashes. It’s kinda selfish to die like that because then your friends and family have to wonder how long they have to wait until they can joke about your death.

You know people are gonna want to lovingly clown on Darrell at his funeral but no one wants to be the first asshole to do it. It’s kind of a dick move by Darrell to die like that. People are gonna drink a little too much during the dinner celebrating his life and someone will drop a joke. The guy who wasn’t that close to the dead person but wants to act like they were really close to the dead person will get super offended at the joke and then there will be a fight. I’ve seen it a thousand times.

Despite him dying in an asshole type of way, I hate seeing people like Darrell die. Scripted reality shows about truck driving or living in Alaska suck me in faster than any shows on TV. I’m not sure why but I’m enamored with people digging root cellars, outhouses, plotting land, listening for the crack of the ice when they are driving over it. I love it all. It’s not shit I’d ever do myself but I can get wrapped up in those shows for hours. Bush People. Last Alaskans. Life Below Zero. All great.

RIP, Darrell.

Side note: Darrell filmed the worst commercial of all time but it’s somehow electric and I might use Optima Tax Relief because of it. I dont need tax relief but Optima is on my radar if I ever do.
