The Greatest Diss Song Of All Time: "You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch"

Coley just wandered over to my desk and asked me an important question. What is the greatest diss track of all time? My quick answer, before even thinking, was “Hit Em Up” by Tupac. Nope, Coley said. And before I could even correct myself to say “Ether”, he hit me with an indelible truth bomb; it was “You’re A Mean One Mr. Grinch” by whoever that dude is that had a huge problem with Mr. Grinch.

Let’s look a little closer at Dr. Seuss’s lyrics, because he completely undresses the Grinch in soul-crushingly offensive manner.

God damn that’s hard. It kind of even makes sense that the Grinch was such a grinch. There is a happy-go-lucky holiday song dedicated to how much he sucks. If you go around telling people they’re assholes, the chances are they are going to wind up acting like an asshole. The Grinch was clearly bullied his whole life, after which he was ostracized and forced to life on a mountain as a hermit. Excuse him for not loving the rest of society. I mean, just look at what they thought of him.

They’re going at your soul son!! Being a grinch is an important part of the holiday season, but we must recognize where it came from and why he’s that way. Only then can we appreciate the time honored holiday tradition of being mean to people.
