Mag The Mighty, The Giant From Game Of Thrones, Has Died

mag

NYTimes- Neil Fingleton, the 7-foot 7-inch actor who played the giant Mag the Mighty on the hit HBO fantasy series “Game of Thrones,” died on Saturday. He was 36.

The Tall Persons Club said Mr. Fingleton, who was recognized by Guinness World Records in 2007 as Britain’s tallest man, died on Saturday, but did not say where he died. British news media reports said the cause was heart failure.

Sad story out of England today. Neil Fingleton, the actor who played Mag the Mighty in GOT, has died. Early word is that he died of heart complications, which is ironic because Mag the Mighty probably had the biggest heart of anyone in the show. He was a GREAT character. Couldn’t really understand what he was saying, but you knew what he meant. A crucial character in Battle of the Bastards, one of the greatest episodes of TV ever. He was shot about 400 times but still managed to bust down the gate to Winterfell before Ramsay Bolton shot him in the eye, a gut-wrenching moment that made us hate Ramsay even more. If you feel like being sad, here’s that incredible scene.

Little background about Neil Fingleton, the actor who played Mag: he was 7’7” and played high school basketball in Massachusetts, where he was named a McDonalds All-American and state player of the year. He then went on to play at UNC for one season, where he played in one game, before transferring to Holy Cross. He tried playing pro-ball for a bit before retiring and switching to acting.

He was, of course, outrageously tall. The tallest man in England.

News Observer- “I have always been taller then everyone since I can remember,” he said. “My height really took off when I reached 11 and was touching 7 foot. By the time I was 16 I was 7 feet 5 inches and stopping growing at 18 when I was 7 feet 7.56 inches.”

7 feet tall when he was 11! Can you fucking imagine?! Dunking in lower school basketball games without jumping. How the hell do you score on a guy like that if your entire team is under 5 feet? Just park Neil in the middle, have him catch every single shot that comes his way, and wait until he lumbers down to the offensive end so he can drop the ball in for 2.
In any case, rest in peace you beautiful giant. You will be missed.
