David Price Had An MRI On His Elbow After Forearm Discomfort, Will Not Make His Next Start, Expected To See Dr. James Andrews, Fuck
Well, fuck. This story is still developing, and details are coming out piece by piece. I was HOPING that I wasn’t going to see Dr. James Andrews’ name as a part of this, and then BOOM. There it is. Fuck. Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, FUCK. The grim reaper of pitcher injuries is here.
This is basically exactly how it happened with Carson Smith last year. Started with forearm discomfort that led to an MRI on his elbow, which ultimately became Tommy John surgery and a 12-month road to recovery that he has yet to return from. That was one of the main selling points on committing to David Price for seven years — he’s only been on the disabled list once in his nine-year career, and it was a tricep strain. No elbow issues, no cause for concern, although every pitcher is susceptible to an injury like this. He just didn’t have a history of elbow problems. That’s no longer the case.

Now, we wait. But it doesn’t sound good. Like, not good at all. You don’t go to see Dr. Andrews unless shit just got real. Not to make matters worse, but the pitching depth on this team isn’t all that great, either. Steven Wright, Eduardo Rodriguez and Drew Pomeranz are all coming back from injuries, Henry Owens sucks, and Brian Johnson was limited to 95 innings last year. The Red Sox purchased the contract of Hector Velazquez from the Mexican league last month for 30 grand, but if that’s the guy we’re depending on, then God help us. Good thing the Red Sox traded Clay Buchholz to stay under the luxury tax. I know how strapped they are for cash.
If there’s a silver lining here…the Red Sox got Chris Sale? Amirite? Just shoot me in the face.
