A Comprehensive Breakdown Of The Leprechaun In Alabama - The Greatest Internet Video Of All Time
I know I’m the type to throw around “of all time.” I know I’m prone to hyperbole. But make no mistake about it, the Leprechaun In Alabama is the best video that has ever been on the internet, and I think I’m pretty confident it will forever hold the throne. I feel like we’re at the point where there’s a generation of kids coming up that probably dont even know what this video is. A whole generation of kids who wouldn’t know what to say if they had, in fact, seen the leprechaun in Alabama. I’d like to break it down.
Opening Act – The News Reporters
Overshadowed by all the gold (pun intended) that follows are the news anchors that open up this video. Doing their best Ron Burgundy voices, chuckling and teasing this clip like they arent about to cut to B-roll of a bunch of hoodrat hillbillies straight from World Star and call it a news report. What NBC producer put this together and was like “Yes. This is it. This is a report fit for the nightly news.”

Act 1 – “To me it look like a leprechaun to me. All you gotta do is look up in the tree. Who all seen the leprechaun say yeahhh!!”
Within the greatest internet video of all time, you have a top 5 quote, and a top 5 GIF. For the last decade I’ve run around saying Who All Seen The Leprechaun Say Yeah and it never gets old. Every time I see that gif of those sparkling gold teeth and that shrug, I laugh. This dude, his reaction and the quote are truly, genuinely timeless.
Act 2 – The Amateur Sketch
The Amateur Sketch hits you like a ton of bricks. You’ve just barely caught your breath from Who All Seen The Leprechaun and the narrator drops this Amateur Sketch on you like we’re gonna all solve this crime together. Like the news feature opened up and the viewer at home wasnt sure if they had seen the leprechaun in Alabama, but then saw the amateur sketch and was like “OH! That one! Yes I’ve seen that leprechaun!” Its truly a spit out your coffee, laugh out loud moment.
Act 3 “Could be a crackhead that got hold to the wrong stuff”
If we’re being honest, this is probably the most accurate assessment of the situation down in Mobile, Alabama. Crackheads in the trees. As funny as that clip is, its more so that I think she just cracked the case.
Act 4 – This guy helping to direct traffic suited up to ward off spells using a special leprechaun flute from thousands of years ago passed down from his great great grandfather from Irish descent.
“Dont be afraid!” The guy helping direct traffic on a dead end street. The Black Irish. If anybody was gonna catch the Leprechaun In Alabama, it was gonna be this guy. Only the Irish can lure leprechauns out of hiding. Only an Irishman could trick that leprechaun out of that tree.
The Finale – Where da gold at!
Finally someone says whats really on their mind. Da gold. Where da gold at. Where there’s a leprechaun theres a pot of gold and this dude with his backhoe is gonna dig up that tree. He wants the gold.
And….FIN.
The most entertaining video of all time. No, not a Scorsese film. No, not a Spielberg blockbuster. No. A 2 minute video from 2006 in Mobile, Alabama about a bunch of black folks chasing around a local leprechaun. Sometimes you peak early, and the internet peaked early. Youtube was just starting to cook and it got gifted the greatest video of all time. Probably the main reason Youtube is the success it is today. It would be like an expansion team drafting Lebron James. Building around the greatest of all time during your inaugural season.

*Note: While the guy direct traffic with the flute is hilarious, its not in the top 4. Thats why it was omitted from the poll. Its too over the top. The rest is all genuine reactions to people chasing leprechauns*
