Dale Weise Recorded The Fastest Gordie Howe Hat Trick In NHL History As The Flyers Continue To Inspire Hope

New York Islanders v Philadelphia Flyers

In my expert analysis, Dale Weise really hasn’t done shit all season long. He’s been in and out of the lineup and when he’s in the lineup, he’s incredibly forgettable. Dale Weise has been what I would call a “grey guy” all year so far. The kind of guy who you don’t really ever notice if he’s out on the ice or not. He doesn’t make any blatant mistakes but he doesn’t make many plays either. Being a grey guy is a great way to go through life, but not right after you sign a 4-year, $9 million contract with a team. However, the Flyers are doing this thing right now where even though there’s almost zero percent chance of them making the playoffs, their still trying their hardest to make one last playoff push. One last “Inspire Hope” on the D.E.N.N.I.S. System. And Dale Weise led the way last night by recording a hat trick in the first 10 minutes of the game against the Isles.

Weise didn’t land too many connections and a ton of credit has to go to Travis Hamonic here. As soon as Weise already had a goal and an assist in the bag, you knew he had to go for the fight. Sure, Hamonic had to try to provide a little spark for his team after going down 3-0 in the first 8 minutes of the game. But he didn’t necessarily need to drop the mitters with Weise. I feel like Weise needed that fight more than Hamonic did but he still gave Dutch Gretzky the fight he was looking for. And now, Dale Weise goes into the NHL record books as the fastest player to record a Gordie Howe Hat Trick in league history. March 30, 2017 in game 77 of a more-than-likely wasted season. The night the 16-17 Philadelphia Flyers decided to set some records.

Even crazier is this wasn’t the only Gordie of the night. Hell, it wasn’t even the only Gordie of the 1st period. Because a minute after the Weise v Hamonic fight, NHL All Star MVP Wayne Train Simmonds got his own GHHT started.

    Assist – 9:19

    Goal – 15:42

So so very ugly. But guess what? They don’t ask “how?”, they ask “how many?”. And that’s Simmer’s 30th of the season. Not a big deal. When Ghost gets his shots on net, good things happen. Even if those good things are the puck deflecting off Simmonds’ kneecap and then off a defender and then in the back of the net.

    Fight – 19:53

Again, not really the greatest fight in the world but good on Anders Lee for giving that fight to Simmonds right before the period ended.

The Flyers have 5 more games left on the season. They’re 6 points out of that final wild card spot with Tampa Bay, Carolina and the Islanders all ahead of them with a game in hand each. It is ridiculously unlikely that they’ll be able to jump all those teams AND the Bruins to get themselves into the playoffs. But it’s also ridiculously unlikely that a team will record 2 separate Gordie Howe Hat Tricks in the 1st period of a single game. So who knows what’s possible anymore these days.
