Bizarre And Scary Situation In Philly Last Night As Michal Neuvirth Collapsed In The Middle Of The Game
Michal Neuvirth got the start in last night’s Flyers vs Devils game after Steve Mason got the night off with a sickness. So Anthony Stolarz was called up from Lehigh Valley and Neuvy got the start. And then just about 8 minutes into the game, this happened.
Scary as hell. No contact, play isn’t even down in that end, nothing. Neuvirth just loses consciousness and collapses. Obviously whenever anything like that happens everybody’s mind immediately rushes to the worst possible scenario. You could see how terrified both benches were. You could tell how terrified everybody on the scene was as they got the stretcher out immediately. The entire Wells Fargo Center went silent. Just something you never expect to see out there.
Luckily Neuvirth doesn’t have any medical issues in his history that we know about. And it sounds like whatever illness has been flying around the Flyers’ locker room is probably to blame for this collapse. Sounds like it’s just a case of dehydration or something like that. The Flyers haven’t come out to give any official updates on his status yet aside from the fact that he’s awake and alert. Either way, what a season it’s been for the 2016-17 Philadelphia Flyers. This thing can’t come to an end soon enough.

Sidenotes on the game:
– With Neuvirth going down and Stolarz having to jump in the net last night, the Flyers got Eric Semborski to fill in as the emergency backup goalie. If the name Eric Semborski sounds familiar to you, it’s because he served as an emergency backup earlier this year in December for the Blackhawks when they were in Philly.
– Stolarz came in and got a shutout for the Flyers, who usually play like hot garbage against the Devils. Which puts them on a little 4-game win streak here toward the end of the season. Unfortunately, the playoff push isn’t going to be enough. Because even when the Flyers win, teams ahead of them in the standings are also winning. Boston got a win against Florida which means a 3-0 win for the Flyers over New Jersey does nothing to help them close that 6-point gap with just 4 games left on the season. This one is over but hey, at least nobody can say it wasn’t entertaining.
