FC- For more than a decade, Dove’s “Real Beauty” campaign has been challenging our ideas of what beauty is, what it means, and why we think about it the way we do. Recently, the brand has extended its message into a new Real Moms campaign and product line, and hacking stock images to get a more realistic portrayal of strong, beautiful women in poster and outdoor advertising. Now, in the UK, the brand has found a way to embed that message into its product packaging. Created by agency Ogilvy London, “Real Beauty Bottles” is a limited-edition run of six different body wash bottles to illustrate the power of body diversity–ranging from curvy to tall, petite to slim. In a statement Dove said, “Each bottle evokes the shapes, sizes, curves and edges that combine to make every woman their very own limited edition. They’re one of a kind–just like you. But sometimes we all need reminding of that. Recent research from the Dove Global Beauty and Confidence Report revealed that one in two women feels social media puts pressure on them to look a certain way. Thankfully, many women are fighting with us to spread beauty confidence.” And people either hate it or are laughing hysterically at it, courtesy of the meme-tastic treatment it’s been getting on Twitter. Both reactions are far from the gushing support the brand has become accustomed to around its “Real Beauty” efforts.

Dove had to see this one coming. I’m way woke on Dove body shape bottles. They did this for the publicity. So guys like me would write blogs about it and give them all sorts of press. Well it worked but not really cause I know it’s a scam. You think Dove didn’t know that when they put out bottle of soap for fat people that it wasn’t gonna be Trigger Time? Gimme a break. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good business. Just don’t Also, this body shape bottle thing isn’t gonna work anyway. If you think anyone is buying the fat person bottle you are outside your skull. Nobody thinks of themselves as fat. Nobody. I call myself fat but deep down I think I’m pretty diesel. That would be the case even if I were 500 pounds. I think I’m doing alright. Could be a lot worse. Nobody is tossing that fat bottle in their grocery basket like, “Yep. I’m fat.” It’s just not happening. Imagine the judgment you’d get from the teenage cashier if you had the fat bottle in your cart. Fuck that. I’m an adonis. Give me the adonis shaped bottle and let me be on my way.
