Wake Up With Troy O'Leary Going Off For Two Homers And 7 RBI In ALDS Game 5 (1999)

Poor Troy O’Leary. History will remember this game as the night that Pedro Martinez came out of the bullpen and mowed down the Indians over six no-hit innings to advance to the ALCS. Shameless plug: Pedro talked about that performance in detail on the Section 10 Podcast, and referred to it as his defining moment. But the fact of the matter is that the Indians scored 8 runs in the first three innings of that game. And while Pedro made sure that there was a zero percent chance they’d add to that total, the Red Sox still needed Troy O’Leary to explode for two bombs and 7 RBI that night to make it a game. Red Sox got demolished in that ALCS, but we don’t have to talk about that.
