Over the weekend, Kevin Hart ponied up $300,000 to play in the “Super High Roller Bowl” poker tournament at the Aria in Las Vegas. 56 players entered the tournament, with the eventual winner set to take home a cool 6 million dollars
But the most famous entry of them all was Kevin Hart, who made waves as he eliminated Phil Helmuth and talked shit, humped tables, and celebrated nonstop the entire time.
Kevin Hart busting Phil Hellmuth is without a doubt my favorite thing Kevin Hart has ever done. But even more, Kevin Hart playing high stakes poker and acting like a fool is very, very good for the game.
When guys like Hellmuth act like babies at the table, berate fish (bad players) and are overall just assholes, it is terrible for poker. Kevin Hart is just a rich dude who loves poker who in the long run is not profitable, so it is in poker’s best interest to let him run around and talk shit and hump tables, because at the end of the day, the more $300,000 tournaments he enters and has fun while playing, the better it is for poker. He gets more eyeballs on the game, which means more people decide to start playing, whether it’s at their local casino, when they go to Vegas or AC, or even just with friends. Any time someone like Kevin Hart puts poker in the mainstream it is very, very good.
