Belichick Gave One of My Favorite Answers of All Time Today

Belichick OTAsBelichick OTA2s

So many things are going perfectly at Patriots minicamp, the last three days have been pure Camp Firewood. Consider:

–Gronk says he’s “100 percent.”

–Julian Edelman is expected to sign an extension by tomorrow.

–Brandin Cooks not only looks comfortable in the offense, he’s demonstrating an extra gear no one has a number for, consistently getting under overthrown balls on deep routes.

–Rex Burkhead is being lined up all over the field, caught every pass thrown to him today and Brady and Josh McDaniels are working closely with him to get him acclimated.

–Trey Flowers, who was last off the practice field before the Super Bowl, was in a death struggle with Brady to be last off the field on Wednesday, and ultimately triumphed.

But nothing I’ve read and nothing I’ve seen make me as happy as that quote from Belichick. That’s him to core. One of his best answers of all time. Someone tries to get him to wax poetic about all he’s accomplished, to bare his soul and clue us in on what drives him after all this time, and his focus is on the like 8th practice out of 100 he’ll have before the end of the year. He’s Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy, taking everything totally literally and incapable of speaking in your metaphors. He’s got a system to install, one he’s been trying to perfect since he was putting cream and Sweet & Low in Ted Marchibroda’s coffee. Go write your own goddamned story about his feelings.

It’s great to see all the new guys are coming along and fitting in. But it’s much, much better to see the GOAT of coaches is in mid-season form already. No. Days. Off.
