Spittin' Chiclets College Hockey Rankings (Week 4)

1. Denver

2. St. Cloud State

3. Harvard

4. UNH

5. North Dakota

6. Wisconsin

7. BU

8. Providence

9. Minnesota

10. Michigan

A lot of movement in this weeks top-10 with only one new team, and one reoccurring team. New to the top-10 this season, is Michigan at #10. The Wolverines are 3-1-0 on the year and after a weekend sweep over Vermont and a big 3-1 win at St. Lawrence a few weeks back, Michigan deserves some recognition.

Minnesota makes their return to the top-10 this week. The Gophers fell out of the top-10 last week by splitting a weekend series with Penn State. This weekend, they spent the weekend at #5 North Dakota, two games at the Ralph, which is arguably the toughest environment to play in in all of college hockey and Don Lucia and his boys came out with a series split. This gets the Gophers make on the list at #9.

UNH jumped from #7 to # 4 this week. The Wildcats have yet to lose in regulation and were 5-0-0 heading into Saturday night, where they fell to a strong Colorado College team in overtime. Dick Umile has supposedly eased up on his players in his final year as a head coach, which seems to be sitting well with the players.

St. Cloud State jumped from #4 to #2 this week. Not only have the Huskies not lost in regulation, they haven’t lost at all. At 5-0-0 on the year, St. Cloud State is the only team in division-1 hockey with a 1.000 win%. Not a big deal. Coach Bob Motzko and his boys will have the weekend off this week, but come back against a strong UMD team next weekend.

Wisconsin fell from #2 to #6 after splitting a weekend series with Northern Michigan. I still really like this Badgers team. They worked Merrimack and BC last weekend but struggled against a decent Northern Michigan team this week. The boys got St. Lawrence this weekend who will play them hard, but they need to come out with at least a split.

Denver remains in the #1 spot after a win and a tie with Lake Superior this weekend. If you’ve seen Denver play this season, it’s easy to understand why they are #1. The Pioneers will head to Boston this weekend to face off against a loaded #7 BU and talented BC team. Friday nights BU-Denver will be one of the best games of the entire college season, expect a packed Agganis Arena.

    CELLY OF THE WEEKEND:

Christian Wolanin’s is this weekends winner. Connecting on a one-timer to put the Sioux up 4-0 over the Gophers. You score a big goal at the Ralph against Minnesota, you let them know. And Christian sure as hell did.

    SAVE OF THE WEEKEND:

Senators prospect and Arizona State goalie Joey Daccord laid out for this amazing save this weekend against Omaha. The best part? It was in overtime. Talk about having the clutch gene.
