Houston Wins One World Series And Now They Want An NHL Team

Houston Aeros

The Score – The owner of the NBA’s Rockets is interested in bringing hockey to Houston.

On Thursday, Tilman Fertitta, who gained ownership of the Rockets in September, confirmed his interest to the Associated Press following a recent meeting with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, where the two discussed the possibility of the NHL coming to Houston.

However, the process remains in the early stages. “I’m very interested in the possibility of bringing the NHL to Houston, but it will have to be a deal that works for my organization, the city, fans of the NHL throughout the region, and the NHL Board of Governors,” Fertitta said in a statement on Thursday.

The United States of America and Canada have been allies since the dawn of time. But if there were ever to come a time when Canada would declare war on the US and attack, it would be due to the NHL giving the city of Houston an NHL team before putting another team in Canada. What would cause the situation to escalate even further? If the Calgary Flames end up being the team that relocates to Houston.

Here’s the thing. Gary Bettman has said quite a few times that he’s not going to expand the league any further just to have an even amount of teams. I know that having 31 teams throws off a lot people’s OCD, speaking about myself here, but he’s not going to put a team in Houston just so there can be a 32-team league. So you have to imagine that the next couple of teams coming in to the league will most likely be relocations. Obvious teams that should have a suitcase packed at all times are the Arizona Coyotes and the Carolina Hurricanes. The Coyotes have done all they could possibly do so far in their time in the league. Because of the Coyotes, the league got a kid like Auston Matthews who grew up in Arizona and ended up being the #1 pick in the draft. That would have never happened without a team in the desert. But the team hates the city, the city hates the team, it’s no longer working out and I’m sure they’ll be the first to go. The Hurricanes have a young, exciting team that is on the come up and they still get a college club crowd.

The Flames are having a ton of issues with the city of Calgary right now about who is going to pay for a new stadium. It got so bad that the league actually put themselves in Calgary politics and were actively trying to sway the Mayoral vote to make sure they got their guy in office. That didn’t happen and I believe the team is now on their like 5th time threatening to leave the city. Florida could also be a team that possibly relocates.

So yeah. There are a handful of teams that are in need of a new market and Houston is whipping up a nice batch of creampies and wants to let these teams come inside. That puts them right in the mix with Seattle and Quebec City. I think the good, kind-hearted people of Quebec could at least understand if Seattle got a team before they did again. But if the NHL puts a 2nd team in Texas before moving another team up north, they might go rogue and who knows what those goofy French Canadian bastards are capable of.

Anyway, everything is at the absolute earliest stage right now. Houston is interested in bringing the NHL to their city, the NHL doesn’t completely hate the idea, and that’s all we have so far. Obviously the potential Houston team already has an arena that they would share with the Rockets so that gives them an advantage. And I feel like Bettman would be more inclined to give a team to an owner who already has an NBA team to partner with. All I’m saying is I know everybody is keeping their eye on North Korea right now but we may want to keep Quebec in our sights as well if this ends up happening.
