Baker Mayfield Hung Up On Brett Favre's Agent, Bus Cook, After Cook Gave Away He Had No Clue Baker Started Out At Texas Tech

NFL Combine - Day 3

During the latest episode of the docu-series “Behind Baker,” the Oklahoma quarterback detailed a conversation he had with Brett Favre’s longtime agent, Bus Cook, who has secured over $1 billion in NFL contracts.

“Bus Cook, Brett Favre’s agent, great story. Every agent does the same thing, they give their résumé, what they’re about, all this stuff,” Mayfield said, via DieHards.com. “Finally, when he was about to give me a chance to talk, he asked, ‘So, when did [former head coach] Bob Stoops start recruiting you?’ And I said ‘Excuse me?’ and then he repeated the question.”

If you’ve followed Baker Mayfield’s college career you would know he didn’t go to Oklahoma right away. Mayfield walked-on as a freshman at Texas Tech and played in 8 games in 2013. After his 2013 season he sat out a year and transferred to Oklahoma, walking on as a sophomore with the Sooners. From then on the rest is history as the legend of Baker began. Today we learned that when being pursued by famous NFL agent Bus Cook, Baker was asked when Bob Stoops started to recruit him. His response was perfect.

“I just said, ‘I gotta go’ and then I hung up,” Mayfield recalled. “It’s like, if you’re going to pursue a guy and say that you want him and you want to be that guy that’s going to be there for him, why not do your research?”

I cannot imagine being an NFL agent trying to swoon over a top NFL QB prospect, especially one as polarizing as Baker, and you don’t do any research about him. Bus Cook is a big name in the NFL agent world, but you’re just being lazy if you don’t know that simple fact. Imagine going to any job interview having done zero research and expecting to do just fine? Imagine saying you wanted to work at Barstool Sports and during the interview give away you had no clue we started in Milton, Mass and not all together in NYC? That’s what this was like for Baker. I’m happy he hung up on Cook. How can you trust a guy to handle your negotiations and hyping you up when he doesn’t give two flying fucks to learn how you got to this point.
