Should The Sixers Demand An Apology From The Miami Heat For Sucking?

Philadelphia 76ers v Boston Celtics - Game One

Obviously last night was a pretty rough night for the Philadelphia 76ers men’s basketball team. I’m no expert or anything but it’s kind of hard to win a game when your team is missing all of their shots while the other team is shooting 90% from 3. It’s just a recipe for disaster. Whatever. That’s why this is a best-of-7 game series and not just one game. The Sixers played horrible. The Celtics played great. You live and you learn and you go on to win 4 out of the next 5.

But if there is one group of individuals who really deserve the majority of the blame for last night’s blunder, it’s the Miami Heat. And it’s for a few reasons. For starters, the Sixers had a week off between last series and game 1 vs the Celtics. Maybe if Miami could have put up at least a half decent fight, the Sixers wouldn’t have to gentlemen’s sweep them and then they could have gone into Boston last night without as much rust to shake off. Clearly this was a huge advantage for Boston as they were just coming off of a 7-game series with the Bucks that ended over the weekend. No rust buildup at all and the difference in shooting percentages prove that.

Secondly, Miami just didn’t prepare the Sixers for the type of series they’re going to have against the Celtics. And that was just flat out selfish of them. I mean if you’re going to lose and have yours season come to an end, at least go out with some effort. The Sixers have basically been benching just the bar for the last couple of weeks. Last night they had to throw a couple of 45’s on each side and they just weren’t ready for it. Now that they got that first set at 135 out of the way they’ll be good to go. But Miami should still apologize for the weak warm up.

Either way, this is all great news for the Sixers. Because you don’t want to fall into the same trap that you did in the last series. You don’t want to wrap up the Celtics in 5 games. You want this to go at least 6 or 7 so you can head into the Eastern Conference Finals with minimal rust. You can’t go to 6 or 7 without losing at least a couple so better to lose last night than later in the series. Ya feel?
