The Mets DFA'ing Matt Harvey And Calling Up Hansel Robles To Take His Roster Spot May Be The Saddest Transaction In Major League Baseball History

And thus ends one of the wildest rides in Mets franchise history. The Mets DFA’d Matt Harvey, The Dark Knight, the inspiration for Harvey Day, the ace that started the All-Star Game at Citi Field with a future as bright as any Met in recent years and replaced him with the Human Batting Practice Machine Hansel Rables. Fucking crazy. I went back in time only two years to May 5th 2016 and showed this tweet to a few Mets fans and this was their responses.

Every baseball team has had to DFA a once promising star and replaced him with another player. But it seems like only the Mets replace that flamed out star with the least popular player on the 40 man roster (Robles is probably 1A with Jose Reyes checking in at 1B). It’s as fitting as it is sad.

That being said, I have to admit that after hearing how much Matt Harvey loves the Yankees and how great he would look in pinstripes over the years, this tweet made me smile a little bit, even if it was also sad to see just how far Matt has fallen.
