Philly Public Service Announcement: The New Steve's Cheesesteaks On 16th And Chestnut Are Not The Same Quality As The One's In The NE

Enough is enough. Steve’s Prince Of Steaks has always been my #1 ranked cheesesteak in Philadelphia. Always huge. Always delicious. Plus you get some spicy cheese fries on the side and you think you’ve died and gone to diabetic heaven. But that’s in the Northeast, and Steve’s recently opened up another location (4th total) right in the heart of Center City at 16th and Chestnut. Originally thought this would be both a glorious adventure which would ultimately lead to an early death, and now I have come to decide that only the latter of that is true.

Have had the 16th and Chestnut steaks about twice a month since it opened it’s doors in March and each time it’s outrageously good. Still top 5 in the power rankings in the city and blows any other cheesesteak around the world to Kingda Ka. But something is missing compared to the original in the NE. A slight dropoff that you can’t put your finger on. There’s no pizzazz or punch when you compare the two, and that’s the same with Steve’s other locations as well compared to the original. I say this because I got into a HEATED argument the other day with a Stoolie who swears up and down Geno’s is the best cheesesteak in Philly. Now the fact he even put Geno’s in his top 5 means he had no fucking idea what he’s talking about. Dude seemed like the type of cat who would defend Pitbull’s music as well as actually talk back to the girls in the YouJizz preview ads. But when I started to defend my boys at Steve’s he said he only had the steaks from the new location. I had to slightly concede defeat. 16th and Chestnut Steve’s is NOT the same as the Northeast location.

So basically what I’m getting at, if you’re around Philly and want the best cheesesteak possible, you have to go to the original spot. No second hand skanks. That goes for anywhere, too, but Steve’s especially.

Smitty’s Official Philly Cheesesteak Power Rankings:

-Steve’s Prince Of Steaks (NE)
-Jim’s (South St.)
-John’s Roast Pork (Snyder Ave, VERY underrated and only open select hours)
-Pat’s (9th and Passyunk)
-Joe’s (NE, would be ranked 3rd if their name was still Chink’s. Definitely affects the taste for some reason.)
-Shank’s Original (Delaware Ave)
-Geno’s (9th and Passyunk. SPEAK ENGLISH)
-Homeless guy slinging mystery meat off of I-95.

UPDATE: Chubby’s, Sonny’s and Delassandro’s are all places that should not have been omitted and are just as delish as most of the ones ranked.
