"I Fucked Up" (Addressing The Controversy Around Team Ziti & The Dozen)
Yeah, so I fucked up the Bonus Round in the opening match. It was a pretty big swing in the match, even though the 12-seed Uptown Balls ended up winning by more than four points. We didn't ask the questions in the final two categories, so we aren't sure how it all would have played out based on the various alternate scenarios.
Basically, I made a note that the list had changed in between matches (a few plays went up and down the NBA and G-League ranks), and was only supposed to count a portion of the list during the match's Bonus Round. Unfortunately, I read from the wrong section, and the question Ziti answered technically included UConn as a correct answer, despite me giving them an incorrect buzz.
Because the entire Tournament was pre-recorded, there is no way for us to re-do any matches, so I will instead allow Ziti to challenge the eventual Champions for a shot at the title. Think about this like you would wrestling, or combat sports, they're challenging the Champions and will force them to retain the title.
Could this set a dangerous precedent? Is this ridiculous? Will people call shenanigans? Yes to all of it! But it also means that you get an extra match over the next few weeks, and possibly future challenges for the crown. Should we buy a real fucking crown? Maybe people challenge for the crown all season, with the Tournament trophy being award at the end of the season?
Who knows.
All I know is, this is the schedule for the next weeks...
…and you can watch last night's match here…
…make sure to watch tonight's matchup between 8-seed Spittin Chiclets and 9-seed Generation XYZ…
…it should be a good one!
